VPS - Automated Image Backups
(1/1)
SimonJohnson:
My VPS with Solar has been fantastic but when it comes to sleeping at night im starting to struggle.
I like many others are not a Linux expert however give me a VPS and CPANEL/WHM and i can run all my clients email & web from it.
My worry is that one day i may kill the whole thing by making a silly mistake and the restore will be very painfull.
Now. As im sure you are all aware the beauty of the VPS is exactly that. Now there is an option in the VZPP to Create a backup which is magical because if my VPS died then u could restore this image and Voila it will be back up and running again.
What is needed?
- The backup process needs to be automated and i need about 5 historic versions. I dont mind paying
- Where are the backup files stored? Not on the VPS server i hope?
I would gladly buy into an image backup service to help me sleep. Solar please help me :)
If there is a service like this already you should be touting it around, it would be pretty popular.
Retriever II:
Are you a managed customer? According to the website you're entitled to automated backups for free "upon request". I'm not sure about the 5 copies part, but if they do incremental backups on those accounts then you might get your equivilent to 5 anyway.
I'm also curious as to where the backups are stored - are they on the node, or on another server or in network storage?
SimonJohnson:
if i were a managed customer then they'd probably setup the backups in WHM. What i'm looking for is a complete Image backup.
