Douglas:
We're getting ready to enter a very exciting period over the next few weeks, though I can't QUITE discuss *everything* as of yet...  I can still start rattling some cages around here.  :)

One of the things I will personally be responsible for is helping bring more activity to the forums, as well as kicking our forums into real high gear (including a change to my personal favorite forum software)...

We would really like to get our forums centered around the SolarVPS family (this means our customers AND employees), and have it become not just a site strictly centered around business, but also so that our customers can get to know each other.

I've had a lot of success in helping develop community based websites (check out the Hogs site in my signature below, that's one of my success stories as a tech advisor), and really feel like we can do the same here.

What I'm going to challenge each and every person here (yes, including the employees!) to do is to come up with some things you would like to see changed with our forums.

Suggestions on making this more community oriented are always welcome.  If we need to consolidate some of the more business oriented forums and bring on more community based forums, that's what we'll do.  If we need to start having contests on here, we'll be happy to do that too.

This is your chance to help mold the SolarVPS forums into a seriously kick-butt community, and we want to hear from you!

Retriever II:
Hey I'm thrilled to see something actually happen with these boards.  I think an active forum is the only thing I missed after I left my old shared hosting company.

As for the suggestions .. is it fair that only Ross gets an avatar? :D  But in seriousness, it's hard to make suggestions when I can drop in throughout the month and never see so much as a new post.  There's already the "off the wall" forum which I'm sure was intended to help boost a nice community atmosphere, but all it managed to do was attract what looks like a bot.  I think if you (and the rest of Solar if they find time) started leading more discussion, it would have the largest impact to start things off.  Right now it's mostly limited to 'Why is my ticket not answered'...

Anyway, glad to see something finally being done about all those tumbleweeds.

Roscoe Pico:
I'm cool with allowing people avatars. I guess mine was allowed because I'm an admin and I never gave it much thought beyond this. Doug has a project planned for these forums so I think for now we are going  to avoid any customizations. Regardless, I ( personally ) am going to make it a point to come here every day and at least post something!

Do you have any suggestions for what you would like Solar VPS staff to talk about?

Ross

Roscoe Pico:
I just checked and avatars are enabled for the board... not sure why your duck picture isnt showing up..

Douglas:
Ross, probably the same limitation I ran across yesterday, the dimensions and file size limitations.  You've seen my avatar, and when sized down, doesn't look anywhere as good.  :P

Retriever II, I completely agree that all of our teamies need to become more active on the forums, and that's one thing that we're going to try to get happening here.  Their primary focus, of course, is going to continue to be doing tech support via tickets, as that's what is promised/covered by our SLA.  We are, however, going to try to get them to participate a wee bit more on the forums.  Not necessarily for tech reasons, though we won't stop them from doing that.  :)

::shakes the rafters::  Anyone else awake around here?
