In a server environment wouldn't you prefer the upload to be MUCH higher than the download?

cartwright118:
Oh ye, definatley. It wasn't meant to be a criticism comment. I've just never seen an upload faster than the download before.

You're in the UK?! Where? It's good to know that I'm not the only BritBrat in this camp ;)

As the connection I have at home is crap...2 MB lol. Smack bang in the middle of a residential estate, not far from a town and British Telecom can only give me 2MB!!

Go look at O2Broadband (UK), give them a call and ask them what approximate line speed they can give you on your specific phone number. Then phone BT Broadband Customer Services, ask for a MAC Code, and when they ask why tell them what speed O2 have offered you. ;)

There's not jealousy there at all ;)

The "home server" is for a server at home, mostly. I've currently got drives crammed full of MP3s, DVDs, and goodness knows what. The plan is to go green and get everything I use regularly around here into one central place, on a good quality box and RAID10. The stuff I use most will be on that, and stuff I just want to archive will go onto a couple of other boxes that will be powered off, and only fired up if/when I need to access something.

Been trying to do that myself... I've been eliminating file servers and getting them all into one massive box.

Now if only I could get my truck to "go green"

Yes, I'm in the UK. I'm in the West Midlands, Dudley. Where are you from?

I've been in touch with O2 and BE (They use the same connection methods) They both can offer me 3MB, I'm recieving around 2MB at the minute, O2 and BE are more expensive than I'm paying now, for only a little more speed, so I don't think its really worth it.

So what happens if you are sitting downstairs (Your box's are upstairs) and something you need is on a box upstairs and its turned off? How would you gain access unless you get up and go turn it on?:P (Am i just being lazy lol)

Cheers !! Regards CJ
