UK VPS to Dedicated, Seriously Cool

Ok so we are now offering a nearly seamless upgrade path for our UK customers. We're calling them SolarDedicateds and they offer customers the ability to migrate their VPS from one of our Virtuozzo nodes onto their own dedicated server. They remain in their Virtuozzo environment, however, they are allowed unlimited resource access to the dedicated server and the dedicated server is exclusive to them ( there is only 1 virtual environment on the server, other than the service vps for using PPP ).

For customers who began or choose to begin on a virtual private server, we offer a seamless upgrade path from VPS to Dedicated. By leveraging the power of Paralles Virtuozzo Containers, customers who wish to upgrade from VPS to Dedicated may purchase a dedicated server running a 1VE license of Parallels Virtuozzo Containers. By migrating their VPS environment to a dedicated server, these customers maintain full root/Administrator access to their server in addition to the added benefits of using Virtuozzo, while gaining the full power of the dedicated server.

Straight from the heart...

This is seriously cool. You can go from a VPS to a dedicated, no reinstalling, no changing ips, virtually no hassle. I would love to hear what everyone thinks. How many of you have looked for something like this in the past or are looking for something like this in the future? Did your ability to upgrade weigh on making your decision on what VPS provider to choose?

FYI: We will also begin offering this in our US data center shortly!

Nice one! I've never seen anything like this before, but I'm no pro lol.

Would be really handy if I ever needed to use a Dedicated Server, but I think I'm a long way off that yet.

I know of only 1 other company that offers anything like these "hybrid VPSs", but they fail in that their support sucks, and they don't deliver on promises. Now that Solar are offering this extra option, it makes it a lot easier for me to talk to customers who are outgrowing what they have now, and give them a better choice of upgrade paths.

All too often I have to tell customers that a VPS is NOT an upgrade path from high-end shared hosting ... If they're already using too many resources on a shared account, then dedicated is the only route I can point them on - until now. For customers who have VPSs and need to upgrade, this option also makes it a whole lot less hassle.

So yeah, I like it! :D

Glad to hear it! As I said, we'll be rolling this out in the US shortly as well. The network is far more complex in our main US facility so that makes things a bit more challenging. That being said, prices in our US facility will be similar to that of our UK facility.
