Security Measures and being locked out

(1/1)

lcerura:
Hi, I'm still finding my way 'round all this.....'yet but learning.

Here's a 2 part question regarding what I 'think' had to do with ''cPHulk Brute Force Protection'' and being locked out.

It never occurred to me until now that perhaps the reason I was locked out twice in the past two months was due to attempting to access a cpanel of a domain 'TOO QUICKLY' after having created the domain? Each time I was extremely certain I was entering in the correct username and password.
Is that possible?

Also,
Another time I was locked while attempting to access the remote server through Dreamweaver's FTP capabilities. Could this have been the culprit that other time.
That is....the reason why I was locked out?

Insight and references regarding these items would truly be appreciated. :-)

Alex:
Hello,

cPHulk protects your vital services by disabling authentication to those services after a brute force attack is detected. It protects: cPanel, WHM, SSH, FTP, IMAP, and POP3 from brute force authentication attacks.

There is no reason to be locked out for logging in 'too quickly' if the account creation was completed successfully.

As for the FTP if you changed the FTP password at that time and forgot to update it in Dreamweaver (since I suppose you have it on auto connect) then yes it is possible.

Instead of cPHulk you can try the CSF/LFD firewall since it does the same thing as cPHulk and more.

Thank you.

Thank you Alex for the info.

Still not sure why I was locked out though. But I'll definitely look into what you've mentioned.
