VPS vs. DDS

(1/1)

azavia:
Hello,

I was just wondering what the difference is between VPS and DDS. I've been looking around and saw it said that DDS is hardware-based virtualization, while VPS is software-based. Is this correct?

Even so, on a practical level, why would one choose one over the other? For whom is DDS better, and conversely for whom is a VPS better?

Greetings!

I'm going to have one of my colleagues chime in about his thoughts about his DDS (though I also have a DDS powering my personal blog site)... but I wanted to refer you over to this thread which helps explain the differnces a little bit more:

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

So what I understand for now is that there are less users per node with DDS, and so you can run something more intensive on it. But I would definitely like to hear about any other benefits.

Does root access still come with the Linux DDS? The page on Linux DDS doesn't specifically say root access.

Thanks,
Brandon

Chris:
Hello,
For both types - VPSes and DDSes you get full root or Administrator access as stated on http://www.solarvps.com/linux-dds.php - Full Admin Access.

A DDS basically gives you a full OS environment which you can fully manage, compared with a VPS where you cannot modify some features or have access at.
