Running out of memory...
Jeff:
I have a VPS with Solar with a couple of small sites that are barely ever used. Lately I've had my server become unresponsive and in the support tickets the cause has been claimed to be running out of memory.
Now, it looks as though that may be the case but I'm wondering how the heck I can run out of memory on a site barely used. Basically it's one blog run on Wordpress (that wasn't updated in a month).
I believe I have 512mb or RAM but even if I have 256mb I wouldn't expect my site to suck up the RAM like that.
Douglas:
Jeff, I'm sure I know the answer, but I'm going to ask it anyway...
Have you done the two caching tweaks for WP?
Jeff:
Nope, but even still.
I have some things I'm going to try when I get home but it still seems very very odd to me.
Chris:
Hello Jeff,
This can be caused by multiple factors - eg. robots crawling the domain, sitemap indexing, WP issues or vulnerabilities scanning so we must have a closer look at your VPS to see the exact problem with this.
Apache can and should be tweaked as well to fit your VPS resources or it can be MySQL as well having a resource usage spike. combined with the above mentioned factors.
Therefore we'll have to continue with this in a Support ticket.
Jeff:
Hmm ok, just seems very odd...I pushed a whopping 1.5gb of traffic last month...
